Planning a trip to The Saddlery is straightforward, but a little preparation goes a long way. Here’s what to know before you arrive.
Getting here
We’re just outside Ashford, close to Charing, Pluckley, Smarden and Wye — an easy drive from London and well within reach if you’re coming by train to Ashford International, with a short taxi or drive from the station. Free private parking is available right at the barn, so once you’re here, the car can stay put.
What to pack
Good walking shoes are non-negotiable — the countryside on our doorstep, from Hothfield Heathlands to the Kent Downs, is best explored on foot. Bring layers, as Kent weather shifts quickly, and if you’re travelling with a dog, pack their bed, bowls and lead; we’ll have towels ready for muddy paws.
A sample few days
Day one, settle in and walk Hothfield Heathlands before an evening by the fire pit. Day two, a vineyard tour at Westwell Wines followed by lunch at a village pub in Pluckley or Smarden. Day three, either the coast at Hythe for the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, or a slower day at Godinton House & Gardens or Chilham Castle.
Check-in details
Check-in is from 3:00pm and check-out by 10:00am — if you need a little flexibility, just ask and we’ll do our best.
Most of all, don’t over-plan. The whole point of The Saddlery is the countryside on your doorstep and the freedom to slow down. Check availability and start putting your trip together.
